Grace

Grace comes from the Latin "gratis", from which we get the word "gratitude". Saying "thank you" stimulates the conditioned emotions associated with previous occurrences of when it was said, and releases the oxytocin and other neurotransmitters and whatever to produce a feeling of wellness and satisfaction. It doesn't matter what you are thankful for, the biological response has already been initiated and the condition of grace is put into effect.  The holiness that this stimulates is the acceptance of existence as the good and fantastic thing that it truly is, accompanied by the induced relaxation that it releases and its resulting soft breathing, producing its own cascade of good feeling and wholeness. This is known as being filled with the holy spirit. The bliss is independent of any accompanying philosophy or religion, and is purely a result of the biological processes initiated by the associations from saying "thank you". It is a keyword to stimulate a previous emotion. The "you" has no meaning in this; it is just part of the phrase. The phrase has only good memories linked with it and therefore is pure and good. Saying "I love you" could also be used to achieve the same effect. It elicits a response ingrained from previous circumstances conducive to the emotions of happiness and gratitude.

I think that's how it works.

But perhaps we don't want to be gracious of everything because it might encourage the bits we would prefer not to have, to happen. Or do we? We don't really know, so maybe better off being gracious of everything just to be on the safe side! The problem of flow and control. Being gracious is all flow.  What can be a better flow than to let go and let the universe take you where it wants you to go. Who are we to argue!
